Covered vs. open storage
With only one covered facility in town, your choice is simple: pay for the roof at Barons or take your chances in the open. In this high desert climate, sun and UV do the slow damage. Gelcoat fades, decals crack, and tires weather on the sunny side. Hail is a real seasonal threat too, and a covered spot cuts that risk. If you end up in an open lot, a quality cover helps, but it won't stop everything. Check that the lot has good drainage and firm gravel, because spring runoff can turn a dirt pad into a mess. Wind is another factor here, so ask how they handle loose panels or awnings.
Access and security
Two facilities in Mound House advertise 24-hour gate access, which matters if you tow out early or come back after dark. For the rest, check the gate hours before you commit. A lot that locks up at 6 p.m. can be a hassle if your trip runs late. Ask about cameras, lighting, and whether anyone lives on site. Reviews for Comstock RV Park and Storage are mixed at 3.7, so read the recent ones and visit in person if you can. The unrated spots have no reviews yet, which doesn't mean they're bad, just unknown. Stop by and look at the fence, the gate, and the general upkeep before you sign anything.
