What the ratings say
The review counts here tell a story on their own. SecureSpace Self Storage Surprise carries 593 reviews at 4.5, so plenty of rig owners have been through that gate. Advantage Storage has 202 at 4.7. Then you get the smaller spots: 303 RV Storage at 4.8 on 52 reviews, Wildflower RV & Boat Storage at a clean 5.0 on 19, and the two U-Haul self-storage locations at 5.0 on 11 and 6 reviews. Small review counts deserve a grain of salt, but a perfect score on any number of reviews is worth a phone call. Ask what the reviews do not cover. Gate hours, turnaround room and how the yard drains after a monsoon matter more than stars.
Sun, dust and hail
Outdoor storage in this part of Arizona means UV exposure year round, and that wears on tires, gelcoat and decals faster than most owners expect. A cover helps. Tire covers help more than people think. If you go with one of the eight outdoor facilities, plan on washing the rig a little more often than you did back home, and check the roof sealant twice a year. Hail does happen out here, so a covered space is not a waste of money if your rig is worth protecting. Six of the listings offer covered spaces if you want the middle ground between open air and a full building.
Gate hours and access
Six of the eight facilities advertise 24/7 gate access, which matters if you pull out early or roll in after dark. Confirm it rather than assume it. Some yards have a card or code system only the account holder can use, and some restrict big-rig movement to daylight for good reason. Ask what happens if your gate code fails at 10 p.m. Ask whether the office is staffed on weekends. Advantage Storage and 303 RV Storage both list gated access, and the U-Haul locations add cameras and a wash option, which is handy when you want to spray the dust off before you put the rig away.
