Picking the right spot
Start with access. Two facilities in Athens offer 24-hour entry, which matters if you tow out early or roll back late. If you need to grab the rig after work, confirm gate hours before you commit. Security features vary: cameras, lighting, and gated entry show up at some spots like The Storage Place and Storology Storage. Visit in person and look at the pavement, drainage, and how tight the turns are for a long trailer. Ask about battery maintainers and whether you can trickle charge. If you store outside, check for tree cover and hail exposure. Also call your insurance agent about storage coverage, since some policies require a locked facility. None of this is exotic, but it's the stuff that saves headaches later.
Local names worth a call
Greenkey Storage stands out with indoor bays and strong reviews. The Storage Place has two locations with ratings of 4.7 and 4.5, and the second lists cameras and climate control, which is rare for RV storage. Texas Trails RV Park might suit someone who wants a spot with a park feel, though details on storage-specific amenities aren't listed. Alpha RV, Boat, and Self-Storage handles boats too, which is handy if you have a mixed fleet. Storology Storage offers covered and outdoor spots plus gated 24-hour access. With 8 facilities in town, you can compare a few in an afternoon. Bring your rig's measurements and ask about bay sizes before you drive out.
