What Benton offers
Of the four facilities in Benton, two are covered and two are indoor, and two run some form of 24 hour access. That ratio matters if you use the RV year round rather than parking it in November. American Way Storage on the list gives you covered, indoor and outdoor choices in one place, along with cameras and lighting, which is the kind of thing worth asking about when you call. Ratings across the four average 4.8, so nobody local is clearly off the mark.
Reading the ratings
Black Dog Storage & Kayak Rentals carries the heaviest review count in town at 101, and its 4.9 tells you people keep coming back. American Way has 71 reviews at 4.5, a solid record with enough volume to trust. The other two, Petroff Road Outdoor Storage and 3XXL Storage, sit at 5.0 but on 3 and 8 reviews. A perfect score on a handful of reviews is a good sign, not proof. Call and ask how long they have been operating before you commit a season to them.
Southern Illinois wear
Sun does quiet damage to gelcoat, decals and tires over a southern Illinois summer, and hail is always a possibility in this part of the state. Covered storage handles most of that. Indoor costs more and protects against everything short of a flood. If you go outdoor, at minimum use tire covers and think about a battery maintainer for the off season. Ask each facility about gate hours and whether anyone is on site, since 24 hour access is only useful if you actually need it.
