Covered and indoor options
If you want your rig out of the sun, Columbia has 11 covered spots and 24 indoor ones. That's a good ratio for a city this size. Covered storage keeps UV off the roof and gelcoat, which matters more than people think over a few years. Indoor goes further, blocking hail and pollen. Some of the top-rated places, like Storage Star, offer indoor and outdoor, plus gated access and cameras. Extra Space Storage locations on the list also have covered and outdoor with climate features. Check which type fits your rig's height and length before you call. A quick tip: ask about ceiling height and door width if you're going indoor. Not every bay fits a fifth wheel with a front AC unit.
Access hours and security
Thirty of the 42 facilities offer 24-hour access, which is handy if you roll in late from a trip. The rest likely have set gate hours, so confirm before you book. Gated entry and cameras show up at several top spots, including Storage Star and some Extra Space locations. Lighting is another feature to look for, especially if you'll be loading or unloading after dark. I always walk the lot at night before signing anything. You want to see working lights and a gate that actually latches. If the office is closed, call ahead and ask about after-hours access rules.
What it costs and how to choose
Prices vary by type and location, so get quotes from a few places. Outdoor is usually the cheapest, then covered, then indoor. The average rating here is 4.8, so you have plenty of well-reviewed choices. Read recent reviews for mentions of security and maintenance. I'd favor a spot with a manager on site and a clear contract. Ask about insurance requirements too; some facilities require proof of coverage. And check the cancellation policy before you commit. With 42 options, you can afford to be picky. Compare at least three before you decide.
